Responsibilities
- Supervise the safe, efficient and effective operation of the pool facilities during the workouts and meets.
- Operate under the rules of the Valley-Foothill Competitive Aquatic League (VFCAL) and Davis AquaStarz.
- Coach and instruct participants on techniques and skills needed to compete in VFCAL meets and perform in the shows.
- Maintain a positive atmosphere at practice that is conducive to a good instructional program.
- Organize and direct team practices. Maintain discipline and control of the team members during practice sessions, meets and shows.
- Develop positive attitudes and motivate team members through team meetings, goal setting and individual swimmer counseling.
- Prepare entries for VFCAL league meets and championships, determine who will swim in routines and figure competitions.
- Determine swimmers level.
- Supervise the proper use of all swim equipment used in practices and meets.
- Perform first aid if necessary.
Conduct
- All AquaStarz coaching staff will strive to provide a postitive environment for swimmers to develop not only technical skills but also a sense of pride and accomplishment as a team member.
- The coaches will clearly define the goals of each practice and communicate those goals to the swimmers.
- All staff will focus solely on the swimmers. Socializing with other staff members and parents should be reserved for after practice has ended.
- Parents and siblings must be reminded to stay along the back wall at Civic Pool and behind the fence at Community Pool during practices unless specifically asked by the coach to enter the pool deck. If a parent does not respond to your requests, please inform the parent board. They are not allowed on the pool deck area at practice and it is the coaching staff’s responsibility to inform the head coach. The head coach may have to refer the situation to the parent board after one verbal reminder.
- Coaching staff will discuss the rules of discipline for swim practice. Talking back to the coaches, refusing to comply with directions should not be tolerated.
- First, a verbal reminder to follow the rules of practices should be given.
- Second, the swimmer should be removed from the pool for a short period of time in order to regain a positive attitude.
- Third, if the problem continues, the swimmer should be asked to sit out for the rest of the practice. Parents should be informed by either direct contact or a phone call.
