Davis AquaStarz Hosts VFCAL Championship
The Davis AquaStarz Synchronized Swimming Team took home nine medals – and many more ribbons – at the Valley-Foothills Competitive Aquatics League’s Synchronized Swimming Championship, enough to give them fourth place overall.
Held Saturday and Sunday at Davis’ Community Pool – the first time the championship for the VFCAL synchronized swimming teams has been held in Davis – the championship featured costumed swimmers performing synchronized swimming routines and figure competitions for team members ranging in ages from under 8 to 18.
Davis’ Megan Wong took first place in her age category for figures, followed by teammates Olivia Bristow in second and Emilia Unger in fourth. Other Davis winners in the Novice figures category included Tara Christensen, fourth; Tess Van Schoor in fifth; and Karla Estrada in seventh. Samantha Diel took fourth for her ages 9-10 group, while Mirielle Peauroi too second and Joanna Hughes was fifth for the 8-and-under competitors.
In the Intermediate class, Davis’ Maddie Peauroi and older sister Elise Peauroi took home third place medals for their age groups for figures. Alex Wong also won third place in her age category, with Jocelyn Cavins capturing fourth for the youngest group of the more advanced swimmers. Other Davis swimmers placing were Jessica Hughes with a fifth-place win and Clara Riggle in eighth place.
In routines, Christensen and Bristow teamed up to finish first in Novice Duets, while Maddie Peauroi and Jessica Hughes took first for their Intermediate duet. Maddie Peauroi also won first for Intermediate solos.
Also in duet routines, Joanna Hughes and Mirielle Peauroi won fourth place in the 8-and-under group, and Anna Hollander and Katie O’Brien finished in fifth place for their age group in Intermediate duets.
Molly Thomas, Natalie Shuman and Riggle took second place for their Intermediate trio routine, while a trio made up of Alex Wong, Elise Peauroi and Jessalyn Eernisse took fourth for their Intermediate age category. In Novice trios, Unger, Van Schoor and Megan Wong took third place.
And the AquaStarz’s Intermediate team routine produced sixth place ribbons – out of 11 routines – for Thomas, Maddie and Elise Peauroi, Alex Wong, Eernisse, Jessica Hughes, O’Brien and Hollander. The AquaStarz’ Novice team routine garnered fourth-place ribbons for Megan Wong, Christensen, Bristow, Estrada, Van Schoor and Joanna Hughes.
The Sunrise Swans won the event, followed by the Fulton-El Camino Stingrays in second, the Auburn Mermaids in third, Davis AquaStarz in fourth, and the Cordova Cordettes in fifth place.
